Not Another Isekai Story- Chapter 2

I can’t say my childhood in this new world was bad. I had loving and doting parents who wanted the best for me. Even though I continued to curse the god that sent me down to this place on a daily basis, I had a pleasant life. I put forth my effort into making my life better than the one I had left.

Like most stories I’d seen or read about. This world was much the same. It was a fantasy world filled with flying lizards they which I at first assumed were dragons but were instead known as wyverns. To my shock they had multiple different names for the creatures based on the placement of their wings and whether or not they could breathe fire, or some other fluid or projectile vomit like substances.

On top of that this world had magic. Real magic. Not any of that pulling the rabbit out of the hat stuff I used to see in talent shows. My mother was highly proficient in using spells to help her in her daily chores. She would float me behind her as she would tend to the garden. It always amazed me when she would use mist and water spells to water the plants or fire spells to light the fireplace. She even used a couple of combinations of Fire and Water spells to heat up the water she used to clean.

Many people around town came to her for help on projects they needed done. To her credit she would just float me along the way and we’d help the neighbors fix their fence or plow their fields with magic. The more I listened to them speaking I discovered that she was a famous adventurer and that her and my father met in a party that took down a creature rampaging through one of the towns.

She had bright blue hair, with two different color eyes. Her right eye was silver and her left eye was black. It was strange at first when I saw her but when she manipulated her spells, they turned a bright vivid green. My father on the other hand was still a knight for the local lord. He chose the job as a prize for his deeds. He called it his workout time.

Our family was happy and I was amazed at the fact that my chance of luck to be born to the hero’s of this world’s age. I was certain that based on what that god was saying I would be destined to accomplish something but this felt just like the life I always wanted and I made it my solemn vow that I would make sure that I never lose it.

On my tenth birthday, was the class choosing ceremony. I had tried everything to avoid it including but not limited to climbing up trees to hide from my parents. This was my paradise. The town we lived in was perfectly nestled in the forest. It was surrounded by lengthy fields and pastures. I had taken over some of my mother’s duties in town as she had taught me different spells. My proficiency in air magic surprised her.

According to her, I should’ve been proficient in some of the same elements of magic as her. So it was a learning experience for the both of us.

“Emily!” She called in the distance. “I know you’re up there! Don’t make me cut down that tree to get you down!”

Without a second warning I felt a thud against the base of the tree.

“I don’t want to go, I’ve told you a hundred times. I’m fine. I can just help you around the town!”

“We have discussed this. You are at the age for your placement exams. We have a limited window to get you to the proctor. They only come once a year!”

“That’s what I’m counting on!”

“You can’t wait another year!”

“I can and I will.”

“Young… Emily Beauregard. Get down here this instant!”

Another thud hit the trunk of the tree. A small fire started towards the base. I, without hesitation, used a just of wind to try and put it out. The increase air fanned the flames and made them grow bigger. I tried again.

“Put it out!”

“Come down!”

“I don’t want to!”

“You can’t stay up there forever!”

“Watch me!”

Another thud of fire hit the trunk of the tree.

“Noooooo!”

“Come down here at once!!”

The tree started to grown and creek under the stress.

“We’re supposed to love trees, how dare you hurt it!”

“It harbored a fugitive. It knows what it did.”

“You can’t make me come down!”

“It’s not up to me anymore.” She said crossing her arms.

The tree gave out its last grown and began to tumble down. I leapt from the branch I was in and gave myself an air cushion. Immediately, a ball of water wrapped around me and I was stuck. Only my head was peaking out of the ball.

“I’m wet now.”

“Whose fault is that?”

“Technically yours.”

“Maybe some people need to listen to me instead of running away and hiding.”

“Now I have to change.”

“Why?”

“Because I can’t go to this test in wet clothes.”

“Who says?”

“You’re going to just let me stay like this!?”

“Yep.”

“That’s not fair!”

“Not my fault.”

“It is your fault!”

“Well maybe you should run to the tree for help.”

She looked down at me with a smirk. Her eyes bright with evil malice. A wide smile across her face that could make a cat’s hair stand on end. I was resigned to my fate whether I wanted to be or not.

The next 10 minutes were the longest 10 minutes of my entire life and I made sure she knew it the entire time we walked. Technically I was still floating in the water ball the whole way.

The neighbors pointed and laughed. It wasn’t an uncommon sight for them but it made the deep wound even worse. I will have to found out my future class whether I wanted to or not.
